Recently, my computer has had a bad bout with spyware. I think it was obtained from a website with too many ads without my popup blocker on. I purchased SpySweeper from the store and it removed 8 threats and 155 traces this mrning. My computer is faster than with the spyware a bit and I am able to get back on the web as usual. But my background on my desktop is still the same as when is was infected. It is one solid color and whenever I try to change the pic, they are all disabled and grayed out, along with the browse button. But when I initially turn my computer on and when it turns off it I see the picture as usual, but without the icons. Also, whenever I try to start up taskmanager it gives me the message "disabled by adminstrator", even though I am and I didn't disable it. To top it off I tried installing XP service pack 2, but it was aborted by the shield on my antispyware and was said "partial installment may cause windows to operate improperly". I don't know what to do!
HELP! I amconfused with this. Problem with XP desktop background and task manager?hijack this
You are infected with a serious highjacker software. This is the type of software that can send out your information when you visit online banking or any other private site. SpySweeper may not have been able to remove it. Try downloading microsoft Windows Defender. I found that this software detected things all those spyware removers did not find. This is the url. in the meantime, do not do use much of your computer while connected to the internet.

HELP! I amconfused with this. Problem with XP desktop background and task manager?liveupdate
Yep - still infected. Bacup data, format, re-install. Get some good antivirus protection, and a physical firewall.
You are still infected. At this point, you would be better off backing up your personal files and reinstalling Windows.
There must be some spyware still left in your system. Antispyware can do some weird things because they can treat programs like spyware and block them. Not much to do but reinstall XP.
