How do I remove spyware from my pc?

I came home one day and found an icon blinking in my tray with a message that states "System detected a number of active spyware applications that may impact the performance of your computer. Click the icon to get rid of unwanted spyware by downloading an up-to-date antispyware solution." I clicked on the icon, but nothing happened. I used spybot which is really good and first it found some applications and I deleted them and when I ran it again, it stated none was found. However, the icon in my try is still blinking and the same message is still showing. I would really appreciate someone with great computer knowledge to assist me with this problem.

Hi killerlegs,

It sounds like the icon itself is spyware. You have a good start with Spybot.

AntiSpyware watches for malicious cookies, spy ware and other malicious things put on your computer by websites that want to spy on you or use your system.

You should have Windows Defender. It is free from Microsoft and watches your system prevents programs from taking over your home page etc.

Go here to read about and get it - http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security...

Another free program you should get %26 run about once a week with Spybot is Adaware. It is also free and you can get it here - http://www.download.com/
