Hijackers how to stop them?

have yahoo antispyware. when i run it says i have hijackers and to delete them. what are these and how do i stop them. running windows 98. I know, I know I need to upgrade. not an option at this time help

Windows 98 is pretty old and pretty broken, but if that is what you have then that is what you have.

I am not sure of the malware removal tool from microsoft will help, but if you go to their downloads center they should let you run it. It is automatically run as part of the IE7 installation.

You could try Spybot search and destroy.

It is free and pretty good.

As far as upgrading your system goes have you considered Linux. Linux Slax is a fairly small operating system and pretty fast as well as secure. You can get almost everything in it that you can in windows.

I don't know what you have as a machine but many of the operating systems out now simply require more memory than most old machines have. Which is why I mentioned Slax as being small.

You might also want to switch to Firefox if you are running Internet Explorer.

FireFox seems to be more secure.

Mostly because not as many people are trying to crack it.
