Why won't my laptop play DVDs anymore?

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 that is about a year old. When I first got it, it played DVDs perfectly. Now the movie jumps and sputters all over the place when I try to play it.

I know it's not the fault of the DVD itself, because all the DVDs I have tried still work fine in other players.

I know it's not the DVD playing software, because I have tried all of them I can think of. From VLC, to Dell Media Experience, to even *gasp* Windows Media Player. They all react the same.

I'm pretty sure that it's not a virus or spyware, because I have run massive searches with multiple antispyware and antivirus programs.

I know it's not having too many programs open, because I have ran EndItAll before trying to play a DVD with no difference.

I know it's not lack of hard drive space, because I just recently eliminated about 8GB through uninstalling old programs, and deleting old documents, pictures, and music.

I already tried increasing Virtual Memory.

I'm pretty sure it's not the DVD drive.
