Hi there , heres the problem , i have a tower that i was using untill a few days ago, its about 8 years old and i know for a fct that it had adware, spyware but no trojans in it on the last day i was running free spibot, a firewall and some other antispyware at the same time( IM REALLY NEW AT THIS) so it really slowed right down , so i switched it off and tried to restart it again only to find the black screen coming on ( what you allways get when you switch the computer on in the beginning) with all the writing e,t,c only thats as far as it gets , now i dont expect anyone to come up with a sollution on how to fix it myself , just tell me what you think might be going on thank you all for taking the time to answer this .

You are right on the nose. If you keep up with your anti-virus and anti-spyware solutions, this would never have happened.
You also GOT the warning that you should NEVER turn your computer off while it is running. Instead use SHUT DOWN.
If you can restart into SAFE MOVE by using the F8 Key during the startup sequence, it might still be ALIVE. If that is the case, then start running Scandisk. That might fix any errors.
But you MUST prevent unwanted startup programs from running at the START. You didn't say, but if you are trying to use Windows ME or Windows XP, you have the MSCONFIG thing that will allow you to TURN OFF unwanted startup programs. There are dozens of programs that you can turn off. NO, you do not need AOL or Yahoo messenger at startup. Just keep your anti-virus program turned on.
