I have a virus on my computer. I want to know what kind of virus it is and how can I get rid of it?

Everytime I try to enter a different page on my internet explorer, this message pops up on my screen:

System Error!

Your computer was infected by an unknown trojan. It's Dangerous for your system (critical files can be lost)!

Click Ok to download the antispyware program to clean your system! (Recommended)

When I press ok, it goes to some kind of site and starts scanning my cpu. The site doesn't do anything at all. Please help me figure something out.

Well first of all that site you are going to is part of the virus probably. I would reformat my harddrive and that will get rid of EVERYTHING so you will have to reinstall EVERYTHING.
Don't click on anything that tells you to download something, it's a trick, scan your computer. I got a Trojan about two years ago and it took me a week to find out how to get rid of it. My whole screen was black, but I found the close out button by placing my cursor at the top of my screen on the right side. Once I closed it out the virus was gone. Make sure you have something like McAfee that scans your computer everyday. It's worth it.
You ran into a virus and the "antispyware" program just put more on your computer. NEVER click on pop-ups
I'm going to assume that you have antivirus software already installed, because if you don't there's nothing I can say.
